One of the first and most interesting surprises for a visitor to the Soviet Union and probably still most regions of the new Russia is pictured below. The less than optimal design of this fixture is a compelling clue to widespread systemic deficiencies, e.g., "if they can't get this right, what else must be screwed up?"
